Volunteer Opportunities:

Coffee on the Playground

What is it: Free coffee for parents at drop-off, parents can stay and chat or grab a cup and go.

Expected time commitment: 4 hrs/semester

General duties: Secure coffee from local shop (varies). Typically we get 4 carafes plus cream, sugar, cups, lids, and stirrers. Donated coffee is ideal, but there is a budget for this just in case. Set-up coffee station around 8:30am, teardown is usually quick and happens around 9:30am. Additional parents typically available to help with coffee pick-up, set-up, and tear down.

Fall Festival

What is it: Free Fall event for Butler families, typically held near the end of October. In the past, the event has included free hotdogs, bounce houses, face painting, the staff raffle, and other games. 

Expected time commitment: 2-10 hours in the Fall (depending on role)

General duties: This will vary depending on number of people serving on the committee, but generally this involves discussion held via email, reporting to PTO meeting to share overview of ongoings, and set-up/teardown of event.

Movie Night

What is it: Movie night held once in Fall and once in Spring, has been done both in-person and virtually. In 2022-2023, we held on virtually in the Fall then in the Spring bad weather caused us to cancel the in-person event. Students will vote on which movie is shown. 

Expected time commitment: 3 hrs/semester

General duties: Make up take-home snack bags if movie is held virtually, run concessions if held in-person. 

Restaurant Fundraisers

What is it: Work with local restaurants to secure a night in which they donate part of their proceeds to our school.

Expected time commitment: 3 hrs/semester

General duties: Serve as liaison between PTO and restaurant, secure dates, assist with promoting the events.

Playground Beautification

What is it: Assist in creating a beautiful outdoor space for our students. 

Expected time commitment: Varies

General duties: Varies from year-to-year but in the past this has involved things like setting up new soccer nets, painting benches, and ensuring outdoor cabinets are well-stocked and cared for.

Spring Dance Committee

What is it: Spring Family Dance, first held in April 2023 to fundraise for the Meditation & Mindfulness Program. Sold pizzas, drinks, glow sticks, and collected donations. Mr. Sevener served as our DJ. 

Expected time commitment: 3-10 hours in the Spring (depending on role)

General duties: This will vary depending on number of people serving on the committee, but generally this involves discussion held via email, reporting to PTO meeting to share overview of ongoings, securing goods to sell and set-up/teardown of event.

Teacher Grant Committee

What is it:PTO allocates grant money for teachers to request for things such as professional development opportunities and classroom supplies. 

Expected time commitment: 2 hrs/semester

General duties: Review grant applications and approve/deny requests.

Intramural Basketball

What is it: Basketball for our students! Typically 6 games held on Saturdays in January/February (4 teams/grade) and 8 weekday practices. 

Expected time commitment: Varies depending on role

General duties: Roles include: referees, coaches, scorekeepers, and concessions.

Trivia Night + Silent Auction

What is it: Trivia Night held in Spring, Butler PTO’s biggest fundraiser! 

Expected time commitment: 10-20 hours in the Spring

General duties: Roles include: managing silent auction, securing donations, serving as liaison between trivia night location and Butler, set-up/teardown of event, etc.

Teacher Appreciation

What is it: Ensure our teachers feel appreciated, especially during Teacher Appreciation Week (typically in May)

Expected time commitment: Varies depending on role

General duties: Varies depending on the events the committee plans
